Totally new to the game? No problem! Step right up, and start right here...

The Cortex is a text-based online roleplaying server. The game provides a place to both RP like a tabletop game, but also provides things to do. Additionally, staff or players can run storylines, effectively becoming a Gamemaster for a group.

The game provides a sliding-scale of complexity, from simply creating a character and participating in RP, all the way up to discovering the ins and outs of the Starflight System, in order to fly rings around other Pilots.

While you can connect to the game with a basic telnet client, you'll probably want something a little more robust, so we have some suggestions here: Connecting to the Game.

You may connect to the game and explore as a guest. When you connect to the game, type: connect guest guest. Explore around, and feel free to chat with players and staff using the public channel: +pub message

Character Generation (Chargen) consists of several steps, including selecting a name, an archetype, and coming up with a short background about your character, and a description.

First, you'll want to read up on this: Character Creation Walkthrough.

When you're ready, you'll want to create a character. Think of a name for yourself. It should be no more than 20 characters in length. Also, choose a strong password!

Once you've connected to the game, you can create your character with the command: connect name password. Use your name and password, of course. :)
